Physical Activity for Healthy Aging

Keeping Seniors Active & Happy

As we grow older, staying active isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s essential. Physical activity for healthy aging plays a vital role in maintaining independence, mobility, and mental well-being in later years. At Lar Santa Isabel, we believe movement should be joyful, accessible, and part of everyday life for our residents. Through fun and engaging programs, we help our seniors move their bodies, lift their spirits, and reclaim their vitality.

Common Barriers to Senior Physical Activity (And How We Overcome Them)

Many seniors face barriers to staying active, such as mobility challenges, chronic pain, fear of injury, or lack of motivation. Social isolation and limited access to safe exercise spaces can also discourage participation. At our home, we overcome these obstacles with exercise programs and supportive group activities, ensuring that every resident can enjoy safe, engaging, and beneficial physical activity for healthy aging.

While we currently offer gentle light aerobics and stretching, we’re excited to launch a more diverse fitness and games program, but we need your help to make it possible.

Why Physical Activity Is Important in Old Age

Just like a car needs a regular drive to keep the engine running smoothly, our bodies need consistent movement to stay in working order. Physical activity improves circulation, strengthens muscles, supports balance, and helps prevent age-related diseases. For older adults, staying active also plays a key role in maintaining independence and emotional health.
Movement gives our residents a reason to smile, socialize, and stay mentally sharp, far beyond physical benefits.

Current Activities & Our Vision for the Future

At present, we offer light aerobics and guided stretching sessions, gentle, low-impact routines that our residents enjoy and benefit from. But we dream of doing more.

With your support, we hope to introduce:

  • Chair and Mat Yoga – to improve flexibility and reduce stress
  • Mini Golf – a fun and social game that supports hand-eye coordination
  • Lawn Bowls – perfect for building balance and gently increasing activity
  • Memory & Movement Games – combining cognitive stimulation with physical play
  • Gentle Strength Training – using light weights and resistance bands

These activities are not just fun, they’re powerful tools for improving quality of life.

What’s Holding Us Back? A Lack of Equipment

Our biggest challenge is access to equipment and resources. To make this program a reality, we urgently need:

Sports Club wish list

Mini golf set (putters, balls, mats)

Lawn bowls set

Mini Games

Yoga mats for light stretching

These aren’t luxuries, they’re keys to unlocking better mobility, stronger bodies, and happier hearts for our residents.

This is where you can make a difference.

A donation of even one yoga mat or a single mini-golf kit can change lives.

Real-Life Impact: Small Steps, Big Smiles

One of our residents, who once relied entirely on her walker. Since joining our daily stretch group, she’s regained mobility, confidence, and a great sense of humor. She’s even offered to be the “referee” when mini golf arrives.

We want every resident to feel that same sense of empowerment and fun.

Our Commitment: Active Aging with Dignity

At Lar Santa Isabel, we don’t just care for the elderly—we celebrate them. Our staff is passionate about promoting movement in a way that’s gentle, engaging, and adapted to each person’s abilities.

We envision a home filled with laughter during game time, calm during yoga practice, and connection through shared movement. But we can’t do it alone.

How You Can Help

Sponsor a session. Donate a mat. Fund a game.
Every contribution helps us:

  • Launch our expanded fitness and activity program
  • Purchase the necessary equipment
  • Offer new weekly classes and games
  • Involve physiotherapists and movement specialists
  • Create a safe, uplifting space for active aging
